Venice Lido, 6 September 2024 – The film JOKER Folie à Deux by Todd Philips wins the Soundtrack Stars Award 2024 for the best soundtrack among the films in competition #Venice81, a selection of fantastic reboots in an edition also featuring new lyrics, curated by Hildur Guònadottir, musician and composer, already author of the music for Joker, and entrusted to the executive production of the film’s protagonists themselves, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, with Jason Ruder.
It was a unanimous choice for the Jury of the Prize, composed of specialised journalists from the main publications, who were immediately bewitched by the exceptional duets of the protagonists but also by the ability of the music to make itself a protagonist of the film by Philips like the two extraordinary performers in the film.
Not only international cinema in this edition’s awards sealed by the choice of Colapesce, Soundtrack Star Award 2024 for the music of Iddu, best soundtrack 2024 among the Italian films presented at the 81st Venice Film Festival, 26 original tracks that accompany the narration of directors Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, punctuating the rhythm and tension with a sound that recalls the atmosphere of an ancient Sicilianity.
And Margherita Vicario, musician, performer, actress, and now also director with a debut dedicated precisely to music, is the winner of the Award of the Year with Gloria! Margherita was awarded a prize ‘for the originality and freshness of a first work that has sealed in the relationship between cinema and music a surprising directorial debut, an invention also in sound that transforms the rhythm of an eighteenth-century convent for orphans without a future into a hymn to freedom with universal value’.
The 2024 Special Prizes
Special Award to Fabio Massimo Capogrosso for Il tempo che ci vuole by Francesca Comencini, presented at the Festival out of competition and finally to CAM Sugar the Soundtrack dedicated to the history of Italian soundtracks with a memory of Piero Piccioni on the occasion of the restoration of Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare di agosto.
